Join us for an introductory course into the fascinating world of hydroponics- the method of soilless plant growing.

Farmers around the world have used similar systems for thousands of years and recirculating hydro systems are becoming more and more popular as a water-saving method of agriculture.

In this workshop we’ll be live from the Greenhouse as our Hydroponic Greenhouse Manager takes you through the basics of hydroponics. This engaging 101 class is part presentation and part demo.

You’ll get to tour our system as we touch on topics related to hydroculture including its history, types of home systems suitable for the urban dweller, indoor lighting, pest management, and selecting beneficial plant species.

Get the real dirt on urban farming, a burgeoning industry taking root in NYC. We’ll share a presentation on the fundamentals of the business followed by a guided visit to the 65,000 sq ft commercially farmed green roof. Using our decade-old business as a case study, we will describe the infrastructure and installation process of our farms; examine what it takes to operate a healthy commercial urban agricultural business; and explore the social, environmental, and economic benefits of rooftop farming.
