FOOD EQUITY FUNDING PARTNERSHIPS

When the pandemic hit in 2020, we took the opportunity presented by the disruption of our traditional sales channels to lean into our Food Equity Funding Partnerships. In cultivating strong, local food systems in collaboration with community partners and mission aligned businesses, our program is motivated by providing access to healthy, culturally relevant produce at low or no cost to neighbors, and building horizontal relationships with the community in the spirit of solidarity, and mutual aid.

IN 2023, BROOKLYN GRANGE GREW an estimated 42,577 LBS OF VEGETABLES TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS AT NO COST.

AT THE NAVY YARD FARM

At our Navy Yard farm, our strategic partnership with the Tasmanian boot company, Blundstone, allows us to work closely with and grow food for Community Based Organizations including TRANSgrediendo, Myrtle Village Green, Brooklyn Rescue Mission, Riders 4 Rights and Ali Forney Center.

NAVY YARD PARTNERS

  • TRANSgrediendo is an organization working on the dissemination of human rights access to comprehensive health care of TransGNB people. By strengthening the social and cultural expression of diverse gender identities in New York City, we aim to guarantee our well-being and the right to a life free from all types of violence.

    DONATE

  • Brooklyn Rescue Mission was founded in 2002 by a group of clergy and community workers with a vision to service people of Central Brooklyn with healthy fresh food and clean warm clothing. The mission supports families, predominately headed by low wage earners, by providing food outreach and clothing assistance. Through their urban farm, they grow for the community and run programming.

    DONATE

  • Riders4Rights is a New York-based grassroots organization dedicated to building and amplifying power for the Black Liberation.

    DONATE

  • The Ali Forney Center was founded in 2002 in memory of Ali Forney, a homeless gender-nonconforming youth who was forced to live on the streets, where they were tragically murdered. Committed to saving the lives of LGBTQ+ young people, our mission is to protect them from the harms of homelessness and empower them with the tools needed to live independently.

    DONATE

  • Myrtle Village Green’s model is built on mutual respect and the desire to learn from one another. And it works. Their 100+ member households reflect the diversity of our neighborhood’s religions, nationalities, languages, socio-economics, and inter-generational families.

They feed the neighborhood with 1.3 tons of affordable, nutrient-dense food per season, and grow more than 50 varieties of fruits and vegetables from around the world.

In addition to arable land, MVG offers the community a passive green space in which to gather, relax, and meet. They have been host to birthday parties, first communion celebrations, evening prayers, art installations, and even a wedding.

AT THE SUNSET PARK FARM

At our Sunset Park farm, our strategic partnership with NYU Langone and the Sands Family Foundation allows us to grow produce for The Table Food Pantry, Mixteca, PS 94 and Grandma’s Love Inc.

SUNSET PARK PARTNERS

  • The Table Food Pantry is open every Friday from 9:00AM to 12PM, and operated by NYU Langone Health volunteers and other members of the community, residents select fresh produce and other food items—like they would at a store—and learn how to prepare fresh produce available that day. This model of a “client choice” pantry has been found to improve food security, self-sufficiency, and quality diet outcomes.

    DONATE

  • Mixteca is a community-based organization located in Sunset Park. It was established in 2000 by a group of concerned community members to address critical needs in health, education, social and legal issues facing the burgeoning Mexican and Latin American immigrant community in Brooklyn.

    DONATE

  • PS 94 celebrated the opening of their Community Food Pantry in May 2021 with the support of the Chinese-American Planning Council, Council Member Alexa Aviles and the NYC Department of Education.

  • Grandma's Love, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to combating childhood hunger in communities throughout New York City, especially in low income and at-risk neighborhoods.

Grandma's Love, Inc. was founded in 2015 in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn by Theresa Monforte-Caraballo.
