Woodblock Prints

  • Brooklyn Grange Clinton Avenue & Flushing Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11205 (map)

Event Description:
Explore the endless possibilities of printmaking! In this three hour hands-on intensive you'll learn how to create and print your own design using a linoleum block. Working alongside Nathan Catlin, an experienced printmaker and educator, you'll learn all about the ancient technique of block printing and gain the skills necessary to make beautiful prints on your own.  We encourage you to bring in ideas, sketches and inspiration images or just come as you are ready to experiment and enjoy.

By the end of the session, participants will take home the basic tools and resources to continue exploring and making prints at home.

Materials to Bring:

  • Your ideas, artwork design/reference for what you might like to print.

  • Additional paper may want to print on. You will be given paper in class.

  • Please wear clothes that can get messy.

Nathan Catlin is an artist who uses relief prints and painting in his work to create scenes that deal with allegory, morality, and cause and effect.  As an educator he teaches relief printmaking at Columbia University as well as acts as the Master Printer at the LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies, also at Columbia University.  There he works and collaborates with artists to create editions of prints which are later sold to collectors, galleries, and museums.  He has been working with printmaking for the past 14 years, working professionally for the last 7.  He is represented by Davidson Contemporary in NYC.
