SOLD OUT - Mushroom Cultivation

  • Brooklyn Grange Clinton Avenue & Flushing Avenue Brooklyn, NY United States (map)

This event is SOLD OUT. Please check out our upcoming events calendar for more great workshops.

Event Description
Mushroom cultivation, a Brooklyn Grange cult classic (get it?!), is back! Take a deep dive into the amazing world of mushrooms and fungi. This two-hour lecture led by Andrew Carter, one of the co-founders of Brooklyn’s mushroom farm, Smallhold, will cover the basics of how mushrooms grow in nature and how we can apply those lessons to various locations and environments to cultivate mushrooms for food and medicine.

You’ll leave with a basic understanding of the differences between hobby and commercial scale operations, what substrates are and which are best for growing mushrooms, types of equipment and other important resources you’ll need to get started growing on your own.

In the second half of the workshop we’ll make basic mushroom kits for you to take home. You’ll be amazed at how simple the process is and soon you’ll be on your way to growing delicious, healthy mushrooms of your own!

ABOUT SMALLHOLD
Class will be led by Andrew Carter of Smallhold, NYC’s only mushroom farm.  Based in Bushwick, Brooklyn, Smallhold grows gourmet mushrooms for all your favorite restaurants and grocery stores, and installs on-site production so chefs can have hyperlocal mushrooms grown right on site.  They believe food production should be decentralized to make high quality, local produce affordable for everyone.
