SOLD OUT - Beekeeping 101: Hive Inspection

  • Brooklyn Grange Clinton Avenue & Flushing Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11205 (map)

This event is SOLD OUT. Please be sure to visit the upcoming events calendar for more great events.

Event Description:
What's all the buzz about? Bees! Now more than ever, bees are having a moment in the sun for their importance in pollinating the plants that produce our food. As farmers, they've got our vote.

Our favorite beekeeper Carin Zinter of C & C orchards will teach WHY these honeybees are so important, explain the tools of the trade, and the basics of getting started with your own hive. From there, you'll suit up and get to observe a hive-check to see what a healthy hive looks like! We'll be on the lookout for a healthy queen, bees busy making honey, pollen stores and more.

Expect to be fascinated, awed, and slightly in love with these little ladies by the time the workshop is over. You'll start to notice honeybees all over the city once you know what to look for!

About Carin Zinter
Carin is a beekeeper and educator who, through her business, C & C Orchards, provides raw, local honey to restaurants and pastry chefs in the northeast. C & C Orchards Honey was just named a finalist for the 2017 Good Food Awards! In addition to keeping bees herself, Carin is the lead educator for Brooklyn Grange's season-long beekeeping training program.

This workshop will take place at our Brooklyn farm, located on the roof of Building 3 in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Detailed directions can be found by following the link below.
