Herbalist, Dawn Petter returns to Brooklyn Grange to offer her, "Herbs For Winter Immunity". In this class you will learn how to strengthen your immunity in preparation for the cold and flu season. Several traditional recipes will be demonstrated with tastings, and the herbal actions of each ingredient will be discussed.
This class will offer new and creative ways to enhance your winter wellness whether you are a seasoned home remedy maker or a herbal medicine novice.
You'll leave immersed in the world of wild botanicals and tasty ways to take your medicine during the winter cold season.
You will learn to make:
- A medicinal mushroom alcohol extract
- A herbal oxymel using anise hyssop.
- A soothing cough syrup with cherry bark and ellecampane.
- A herbal lozenge
- An immune boosting broth with astragalus, shiitake and burdock root
- Fire cider* (a traditional recipe popularized by renowned herbalist Rosemary Gladstar).
Each student will take home a jar of the cough syrup and the hyssop oxymel, (made in class).
About Dawn Petter
With a passion and vast knowledge of herbs and a prolific career in design, Dawn Petter teaches classes about the art of plant based healing. Her classes are imaginative and accessible and are taught to encourage students to use herbal medicine in their daily lives. She incorporates her training from Arbor Vitae School of Traditional Herbalism with her natural creative flare. Dawn works as a herbalist and flower essence practitioner in NYC, leads herb walks, and teaches classes at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, The NY Open Center, Brooklyn Brainery, Project Find, and the Just Food Conference, amongst other places.
