What is it like to be an urban farmer? How does one cultivate crops hundreds of feet above the city streets? In our hands-on farming workshop, you’ll step into farmer Michelle Cashen's shoes and get your hands dirty working the (rooftop) land.
By mid-April the soil will be properly thawed and ripe for many tasks. In this workshop we'll cover shaping beds, transplanting 101, and a propagation demo. There will be plenty of time for a Q+A session, and for the most important part of farmer's task list - end of day snacks and libations!
And guess what? If you needed any more convincing to sign up for this workshop, it's for a great cause!
Brooklyn Grange will be donating all proceeds from this workshop to Caring Kind - the Heart of Alzheimer's Caregiving. Caring Kind provides free information, assistance and support for those with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, and is an organization that Farmer Michelle has helped raised funds for for the past three years.
This workshop will take place at our Brooklyn farm, located on the roof of Building 3 in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Detailed directions can be found by following the link below.
PLEASE NOTE: Unless otherwise specified, Brooklyn Grange will not provide credit or refunds for tickets purchased on our website for a workshop, dining event, yoga class, or tour. Events take place rain or shine. Please understand that buying a ticket to one of our events is no different from buying a concert ticket, theater ticket, or movie ticket. You are always welcome to gift your class to a friend if you cannot make it!
