Post Valentine’s Day Bundle Dyeing Workshop

  • Brooklyn Grange Clinton Avenue and Flushing Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11205 (map)

Learn how to recycle your Valentine's day floral arrangements and extract natural color onto fabric using the unique, free from technique of bundle dyeing.  You'll be amazed at the colors attainable by using only plants and minerals!

This workshop will introduce participants to the colorful world of natural dyeing and will cover natural dye basics such as mordanting and color extraction. Students will be able to explore a variety of results and techniques via instructor Natalie Fragola’s collection of swatch examples.

Each participant will leave with their own naturally dyed project made from recycled floral and plant waste as well as resources lists and instructional guide on how to repeat the process at home.

Silk scarves, natural dyes and fresh flowers will all be provided. However participants are encouraged to bring an old floral bouquets and welcome to bring one additional item to dye.

No previous dyeing experience necessary!

Natalie studied fashion and fibers at the Savannah College of Art and Design. She works as a designer and colorist running the studio called “Obra Obscura” which specializes in color and sustainable practices across all mediums.

This class will take place in our indoor loft classroom located on the 11th floor of Building 3 in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Detailed directions can be found by following the link below.
