In 2018, Brooklyn Grange was engaged by Hugo Neu to transform one acre of black top parking lot space into an intensive meadow and community garden. Brooklyn Grange's "Demonstration Garden" features an Amelanchier tree grove, productive space for growing edibles and cut flowers, storm water retention water feature, and children's play space. In addition to hosting plenty of perennial grasses and flowers, Kearny Point also acts as a facility space for Brooklyn Grange's Design/Build arm. A small greenhouse functions as a space to experiment with growing ornamental plants in-house, and a 2,100 square foot hoop house facilitates the nurturing and propagation of more established plantings.
